Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. The Lord Jesus had great compassion on the sick, and His many healings are a magnificent sign that the Kingdom of God is among us. Christ even identified Himself with everyone who is sick: “I was sick and you visited me” (Mt 25:36). But the Lord did not heal all the sick. By his passion and death on the Cross, Christ has given a new meaning to all human suffering: it aligns us to Him and unites us with His redemptive suffering.

Historically, at Nativity, there have been two communal celebrations in the Spring and Fall. However, the next communal anointing of the sick will be celebrated on February 11, 2012 commemorating the day Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, France in 1858.

However, if anyone is ill, homebound, or in the hospital and wants to receive this healing sacrament please notify the rectory.
